Hello subscribers! Thursday is here again, and so is the latest episode of The Nathan Jacobs Podcast.
Anyone who follows my work, whether here on Substack or my academic work or my podcast, knows that I am a realist. That is to say, when why the mind looks out into the world and sees structures of genera, species, and common properties, I believe the mind does this because those structures are real. They are in some way part of the fabric of reality. The view, of course, contrasts with that of the nomialist who believes such structures are mental fictions or names (hence “nominalism” from the Latin nomen) that we impose on a world void of such structures.
What I rarely speak about is the fact that there was a time when I was a hardnosed nominalist. In today’s podcast, I discuss my journey from nominalism to realism, and I go on to offer my case for realism.
