Greetings subscribers! My apologies for the lengthy silence. I’ve been buried under the proofs for my forthcoming Leibniz book. Details on its imminent release will be coming your way shortly.
In the meantime, I’ve finally coming up for air. So, I want to draw your attention to two things. The first is a forthcoming trio of Theological Letters on anthropology, deification, and asceticism, beginning this Sunday. That trio will be followed by an audioletter, and my goal is to drop the final installment on my Brief History of Predestination soon thereafter. So be watching for all of that in the coming weeks.
The second is the latest episode of The Nathan Jacobs Podcast — along with some episodes you may have missed in my absence. Details and links are listed below.
To all my subscribers, thank you for subscribing. To my paid subscribers, thank you for your support. And to any visitors, please consider subscribing and supporting my work. Enjoy!
On Penal Substitution - Parts 1 and 2
Today’s episode of the podcast is Part 2 of a series on Atonement. In the first episode, I explored the doctrine of Penal Substitution, its development in the West, and why it takes so prominent a place in Protestantism. I, then, contrast the doctrine with the understanding of the cross of Christ in the Eastern Church fathers. In today’s episode, I delve into ways in which the language of Penal Substituion is often wrongly projected on biblical and patristic literature, explore the connection between the early Christian understanding of the cross and the embrace of martyrdom, and then offer a philosophy assessment of the theory of Penal Substition.
Questions on the Problem of Evil
Following our rather lengthy series on the Problem of Evil, my producer gathered audience questions from the various episodes. In Episode 51, I respond to those questions, which range from how we are to understand the fate of Judas to the meaning of natural disasters and more.
My Favorite Endings
Recognizing that my episodes can run rather long, I decided to dig through some of my favorite segments that listeners may have missed because they appear at the close of a long episode. In Episode 54, I usher forth some of my favorites that listeners may have missed.
